An error occurred while saving the comment Laura Chalifoux commentedCUSTOM TEMPLATES ARE SUPPORTED - just perhaps not implemented in the way you're expecting. Create a new note using Import PDF, then select the PDF file that contains your custom template. Use Duplicate page to make as many copies of the custom layout as you'd like. You can even save the whole note as a template to reuse - exit the note, select it, then select Duplicate.
Using custom templates does require the extra step of selecting the PDF file to import it, but in exchange you can have as many reusable custom page layouts as you want. I use custom templates for almost every note I create in Squid, and I use Squid all the time, every day, for many different purposes. This is a fantastic feature - I wish more people knew about it. Hope this helps.

An error occurred while saving the comment Laura Chalifoux commentedThis functionality is already available, and I use it routinely. I often create a custom page background in Squid itself. It does require using a vector graphics app to create color swatches as png images. But all you really need is a small square of opaque white - insert that image and use it to add margins, space for a title at the top, etc,. When you have the background you want, just export it as a PDF. Then you can insert that PDF file as a new page. Duplicate the page to use it repeatedly in the same note. I have dozens of custom page backgrounds - all created in Squid - for many, many formats.
If you need a complex layout, it might make sense to use a graphics app. Any app that creates a file you can convert to a PDF will work: Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator, whatever. There are hundreds of free planner page layouts online available as a PDF download file. There are hundreds more page designs on Etsy, which you can purchase to download for a few dollars. And of course you can also scan in a physical page to save as a PDF.
It's a shame more people don't realize how easy it is to create or get any custom page backgrounds they want. For me, this is where Squid really shines.

WORKAROUND: Try turning on Developer Options, and then turning on the option Force allow install external. Go to App Info for Squid, tap Storage, tap Change, then select SD Card.
NOTES:
1) This worked on my old Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 running Android 9 - it may or may not work on your version / device. Before trying this, make sure to do a manual backup from within Squid, just in case...
2) You cannot use an app's widgets when the app is stored on the SD card.
3) Whenever an app on the SD card is updated, Android moves the app back to internal storage, so you'll have to move it back to the SD card after an update to the app.
