You can add a shortcut to your Home Screen to open a specific notebook (see http://feedback.squidnotes.com/knowledgebase/articles/1179331) or to create a new note in a specific notebook (see http://feedback.squidnotes.com/knowledgebase/articles/1179328).
It does not appear to be possible to create a widget that allows for taking handwritten notes directly on the Home Screen (due to the fact that you need to be able to swipe left/right to get to different pages on your Home Screen). Please vote here if you’re interested in a widget that shows a particular note on your Home Screen (and allows you to open it quickly to edit it).
An error occurred while saving the comment @Andreas We would have loved to keep the name Papyrus! I completely agree that it's a more meaningful name. Unfortunately, we were forced to change it and Squid is what we chose in the short time we had.

We don’t disagree that there is a market for a cross-platform handwritten note taking app! We would love for Squid to be available on all platforms. We’re a small team and we don’t currently have the resources to expand to Windows (or iOS). We hope this will change someday!

Support for Google Drive is coming! Along with it is a major update to the automatic backup support in Squid. Backups will be created at the note level, meaning only the notes that are edited since the last backup will be uploaded to the cloud. This will make backups MUCH faster and more reliable.
We've been piloting backup to Drive with schools over the last several months. We still have a few more things to do before we roll it out to Beta. This has been a long time coming, so thanks for your patience, and we're really excited to get your feedback!
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Chris - We do have partial support for Drive via the SAF (at least as much as Drive currently supports). See http://feedback.squidnotes.com/knowledgebase/articles/1185616
I know you're asking for Drive SDK integration. This is definitely something we're still investigating. We're just *also* trying to get Drive (and others) to fully support the SAF at the same time since this would be the preferred, and frankly better, solution.
I understand what you're saying about users not caring about the internal problems that engineers deal with. However, I'm hoping that some % of you do care and will help put pressure on Google (and others) to fully support the SAF.
Honestly, our current Cloud Backup solution has issues. It works great when you start out, but the more notes you take, the larger the backup becomes. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as only backing up what's changed due to the way our internal data is stored. This is also something we're investigating (and have been for a while), but having support for the SAF would go a long way towards improving this. This is because we could simply create a backup and save it locally to Storage Provider X (e.g. Drive). Then Storage Provider X would do what they do best: manage syncing any changes to the cloud in an efficient manner.

I know that everyone has been waiting a long time for sync and I want to reassure you that it is high on our list of priorities. As users of Squid ourselves, it’s something we really want as well! We appreciate your patience.
This is something we’ve been investigating since the app’s inception and we continue to investigate constantly. Syncing is a very difficult problem to solve, especially with regards to handwritten notes which can be combined with images and text and contain backgrounds from multiple PDFs. I don’t have an ETA for when sync will be supported, but rest assured this is a high priority for us. We appreciate everyone’s feedback on this idea.
An error occurred while saving the comment @Sean Ferguson No news. I 100% agree with you though. Syncing is a big thing. It would be awesome to sync notes between devices, especially now with Android apps coming to Chromebooks.
As I've mentioned, this is something that's constantly at the top of our minds and that we're continually investigating. It's really difficult to do correctly and we want to do it right.
I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but rest assured, this is just as important to us as it is to you all (if not more so). We wish we had sync years ago! But alas, it's not that simple.
An error occurred while saving the comment Sorry for taking so long to post an official response on this idea. Thanks Shiraz for suggesting posting an update/explanation. Please continue to provide your feedback!

We redesigned the home screen to show all your notes and folders!
This is now available in the Squid10 preview, which is live in the Beta on Google Play. We'd love your feedback!
An error occurred while saving the comment It sounds like you want to customize which screen Squid opens to by default. However, just so you know, you can already add shortcuts to open directly to a specific notebook. To do so, just long press on your device's homescreen and choose add shortcut/widget (wording varies depending on the device) and choose Squid's "open notebook" shortcut.

📁 Folders are now in preview! 📁
Notebooks are now folders and folders can now be nested! Folders can also be moved to, and restored from, Trash.
Join the Beta on Google Play to check it out. We'd love your feedback!
For tags/labels, we created a new idea. If you're interested in this feature, we'd love your vote and feedback.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for your feedback Peter. Yes, we wanted to merge similar ideas of additional notebook organization to keep the votes and comments in one place. This includes ideas for sub-folders/notebooks, tags/labels, etc. We're still investigating the best way to implement this and would love to hear everyone's feedback on the topic.
I agree that simple nested folders/notebooks is probably not the right solution. On Papyrus for Windows we introduced labels for notes (where a note can be part of more than one label).
As Olivia mentioned, many of these features already exist in Squid. In general, we request that ideas are focused on a specific feature rather than containing several ideas in one. Instead of closing this idea, I'm going to merge it with "Export specific pages of note" (http://feedback.squidnotes.com/forums/177239/suggestions/33832888).
If you'd like to vote on adding the ability to move/reorder multiple pages in a note at once, please do so here: http://feedback.squidnotes.com/forums/177239/suggestions/33038426
If you'd like to vote on adding the ability to merge two notes together, please do so here: http://feedback.squidnotes.com/forums/177239/suggestions/5963951
FYI, if you'd like to be able to import multiple PDFs into a single note, this is already possible. Please see this FAQ article: http://feedback.squidnotes.com/knowledgebase/articles/1136155 (section 2. While inside an existing note).
