This is something we're investigating while designing the Squid10 note editor.
As mentioned previously, this is challenging since notes in Squid can contain both fixed and infinite sized pages, but we have some ideas to make this work that we will be exploring.

Disagree, the app looks like a native Android app, sleek and simple, it fits with the rest of the apps and using the common assets makes it easier for the developers too, better focus on what's important.
Besides, whatsapp also uses the Android style, and it looks good, maybe what you want is a color scheme change
