The idea is to have a fast, passionless experience without clicking through menus at startup when it is unnecessary. (Recall that Word defaults to new doc at startup as well)

This feature was on the original smemo and removed on update but it was awesome and very convenient! I think it was removed for accuracy issues but that could be fixed by allowing the user to edit the final result

There are other programs that do this well enough. I feel it slows things down to have to click through options when note taking should be fast and simple.

Or add option for more, smaller buttons so user can add color swatches, for example
