Enable S-Pen Button
I know that accessing a single button press is usable by an application because lecture notes uses it. A single press could switch between functions like S-Note. I also know that S-Pen functions can be intercepted in a rooted device like GMD SPen gestures, so rooted functions could be added as well.

The Note 4 and Note Edge finally allow us to perform actions with the S Pen side button (configurable in the Papyrus settings). Prior to these devices, we cannot control what happens when you press the S Pen side button. We hope Samsung will release updates to older devices in the future with the ability to detect the S Pen side button.
Note: It is possible to detect the S Pen side button while hovering on older devices, however this is not as intuitive or useful as being able to hold down the S Pen side button while touching the screen with the pen, which is now possible on the Note 4/Note Edge (and hopefully more devices soon)!

I know it has to do with the wacom screen and drivers but does the g pad have the capability to detect the s pen?

I hope you can get this working on the Note Pro LTE soon. I just switched from Note 10.1 with Cyanogenmod and it worked on there, sadly there are not custom ROMs for this one.
Having to push the button while hovering is fine, I think that is how it was on my old device, it's quite simple and makes erasing MUCH easier.
Please add this, thank you!

Using the side button works in LectureNotes without root. Heck, you can assign a double press to do something as well. All while hovering, but that makes perfect sense as I'm changing from writing to erasing, or undoing. Please add this feature, it's not blocked by Samsung, Papyrus just thinks it's "not intuitive". This app would be a killer if they enabled the side button feature to function while hovering.

Now it is possible in Note4, I have the note2 with the ROM DN4 and works!! uo!!
But the rest of Note family no, for example in Galaxy note Pro12, and I can imagine in Note 3 either. -

Cannot get the gestures to work, plus the side button and draw a circle starts the samsung image clip, not papyrus selection tool. Tried all manor of device spen settings, no change. Am I missing a setting?

Yes, it's a shame Samsung hardcodes that (rather useless) screenshot lasso to the S-Pen button, overriding anything you assigned to the button in Papyrus.
Payrus S-Pen button works perfectly well with Cyanogenod ROMs, but no luck with Stock ROMs, rooted or not.

Agreed, please add S-Pen button support at least to rooted devices, GMD S-Pen control can do it.

yes on note II other apps can actually access the spen side button, but this dosen't seem to be possible

I think this depends on Samsung ROM because I can't use the SPen button in a sock ROM or based in the stock ROM with GMD disabling the SPen gestures and pausing itself. Only with a AOSP ROM I can use the button (which works pretty good selecting objects).

As far as the app says and as far as I know there is currently no way for an app to access the s pen button. Samsung unfortunately decided to make it a system-only feature. That's really unfortunate, as I would like to see this feature in Papyrus too.
