I’m working with several older Outlook PST files and one concern keeps coming up: what happens to the original mailbox organization after the data is moved to Microsoft 365? It’s easy to focus on transferring emails, but folder structure, attachments, contacts, calendars, and other Outlook items are equally important when dealing with years of archived data.

For example, some PST files contain custom folders created for different projects or clients. If all the emails arrive in one location without their original organization, users may have to spend hours sorting everything again. I would therefore check whether the migration method can maintain folder hierarchy and preserve the existing data structure.

Another consideration is whether every item needs to be migrated. Some archives contain outdated messages or large attachments that are no longer necessary. A date-based filter can be useful when the requirement is to transfer only emails from a particular period instead of moving the entire PST.
