One concern I have with a mailbox migration is duplicates. We have several PST backups from different points in time, and I’m fairly sure some of the same emails appear in more than one archive.

I found that the DRS PST to Gmail Migration Tool has a Duplicate Detection option. It can compare messages using details such as To, From, Subject, CC, and Body. That sounds useful when several PST files overlap.

There’s also a Skip Existing Exports setting, which is intended to prevent already processed items from being handled again during subsequent runs. I like the idea of having those controls before the migration rather than spending hours cleaning the destination mailbox afterward.

I’m curious what other admins normally do in this situation. Do you clean duplicate messages from the PST files first, or rely on the migration software to identify them during the transfer?

Any recommendations for handling overlapping Outlook archives would be appreciated
